Frequently Asked Questions
There’s no such thing as a stupid question – and we always try hard not to give a stupid answer!
My child doesn’t have any sewing skills – does this matter?
No – many of our students start not knowing how to sew, or use the sewing machine, and that’s where we come in. We show our students basic sewing skills, as well as more complex techniques, and how to use a sewing machine safely. By the end of the course students will feel confident about sewing and will have made some amazing creations.
My child doesn’t know anyone else that is coming – will they be OK?
Absolutely! We know as adults it’s not much fun being in a room full of strangers so we make sure that we start all of our courses with some creative activities that are designed to get our students working together, talking to each other and making new friends. We personally don’t like ‘ice breakers’ where everyone feels under pressure, and instead think up fun activities where the students don’t even realise we’re encouraging them to get to know each other.
My child is shy, will they still make friends?
Unlike a drama course where you tend to get louder, extrovert students, we find that we get a real mix of personalities coming to our workshops. While we still get loud and chatty students, we also get the quieter ones, but we find that none of our students stay quiet for long! We take time to get to know our students and make sure they feel comfortable around the staff – ask any of the team what shoes they’re currently saving up for and they’ll have you chatting away before you know it!
